Who We Are
Hello, my name is Stacy, and I am the owner of Pilatesphere. Having taught dance or fitness classes for over 25 years, Pilates was the natural progression in my love for movement.
In 2014, I enrolled in the Peak Pilates Comprehensive Certification program, where Sonjé Mayo was my master instructor. Sonjé, trained by Joseph Pilates himself, is a Physical Therapist with an extensive Dance & Choreography resumé. Although quickly intimidated by her, I quickly realized how lucky I was to find a mentor with unparalleled knowledge and expectations of no less than my best. Sonjé instilled not only a deep love of Pilates, but a love of learning. I completed the Comprehensive program in 2016 and continue to train with Sonjé Mayo today.
My motto is to never stop learning. I learn from every client & seek out continuing education endlessly. I have worked with experts Kathi Ross Nash, Brooke Siler, Chris Robinson, Alyssa Wyatt, Katie Yip, Simona Cipriani, Dana Santi, Victoria Torrie-Capan & more.
I am NCPT certified and have completed continuing education in the Schroth Method, scoliosis, osteoporosis, pre & post natal, anatomy, training athletes and more.
I live in Mountain Brook, AL with my husband Jeff, two teenage kids, Addie & Brooks, and our dog, Charlie. When I am not teaching Pilates, you can find me at a cross-country or track meet sidelines as an assistant coach for Mountain Brook Junior High School.
FAQs
-
Pilates is a movement system created by Joseph Pilates. The mind-body connection in the system brings control to movement. It corrects faulty movement patterns by balancing strength, stretch, stability & stamina.
-
To get the true benefits from Pilates, I would say practice Pilates as often as possible with at least 3x a week, if not more.
As 3 private lessons in-studio can be less feasible for some, we’ve designed the Pilatesphere memberships to give everyone an easily accesible Pilates practice. Fitting Pilates into your life does not mean it needs to be In-Studio, or an hour long. Doing a few minutes a day is key.

Joseph Pilates first created Pilates to be done on the Mat and it is all you need. The equipment was invented by Joe to assist clients in their mat work. The equipment is wonderful, but not necessary.
If you are local and attending the Pilatesphere In-Person, we have a fully equipped studio with Gratz, Pilates Lineage, and Peak Pilates equipment.
If you are not local and do not have access to a Reformer, Tower, Pilates Chair, then you can attend the LIVE Classes or our On-Demand Class Library. They use a mat and all other small props are optional.
If you have only been using the apparatus for your Pilates practice, challenge yourself to add Mat in.

Pilates is for everyone! Not just women or dancers. It’s never too late to start Pilates. Whatever it is you do, whatever your goals, Pilates will help you do it better by balancing out the four S’s: Strength, stretch, stamina and stability through breathwork and control.
With chronic injuries, your body was likely telling you it wasn’t happy before the injury. When you are not connected with your body, injuries may be the first sign that something isn’t working properly. Pilates helps you interpret what your body is saying BEFORE injury.
If injured, you do need to be cleared by your doctor. Many PT’s are also Pilates instructors with Pilates being a great step following physical therapy. PT will rehab the injury, and Pilates will balance your weak and strong sides.

Camera & Lighting are important. Please have your mat or apparatus angles where the instructor can see your entire body and is well lit. If the instructor only sees your silhouette, you will not receive as much feedback.
If logging in with a phone or small screen, it is advised to mirror the screen to a TV. The less you have to squint & twist your head to see the screen, the better your experience.
Zoom will send a message saying “this meeting is being recorded” and will ask you to accept. If attending a LIVE Virtual class in the “Follow Along” format, only the instructor herself will be shown in the On-Demand Class library. The “gallery” view or class view recording WILL NOT be used without permission of the participant. If attending a Virtual Private lesson, the recording can be sent to you in a temporary link.
